The leadership of the British pharmaceutical company Astrazeneca for the next - the fourth - once refused to sell the business to the American Pfizer. The refusal came only 9 hours after the buyer announced his final offer: $ 117 billion. This amount seemed to Astrazeneca too small, Bloomberg reports .
Pfizer offers to buy a British company since the beginning of 2014. The initial price proposed in January was £ 46.6 per share, then it increased to £ 50, and by May the buyer raised the bar to £ 53.5, thus estimating at £ 62.6 billion ($ 106 billion), that is, 7% higher than the market. The company, however, each time refused the absorption, hinting that the price is not high enough.
On Sunday, May 18, Pfizer made a new offer - $ 90 (£ 55) per share - announcing that this is his last attempt. Representatives of ASTRAZENECA in response reported that, in their opinion, the company's paper should cost £ 58.5 apiece.
If the deal took place, it would become the most expensive in the industry, and in its result the world's largest pharmaceutical group could arise.
After refusing the proposal of Pfizer, the Astrazeneca quotes sank by 13%, up to £ 42 per share . This is the minimum cost of company shares over the past 16 years, Bloomberg notes.
