Over the past 20 years, the Russian Federation has invested $ 200 billion in the Ukrainian economy, including underestimating the cost of gas sold by Kyiv. This was announced in an interview with Russia Today Minister of Economic Development Alexei Ulyukaev.
“Maybe our European and American friends do not understand that we supported the Ukrainian economy <...>, artificially underestimating gas prices and other resources, providing Ukraine with loans, etc. Over the past twenty years, we have invested about $ 200 billion there, ” he announced .
The minister did not dare to predict the further development of Russian-Ukrainian relations, but he emphasized that the opinion of all regions and their right to self-determination should be taken into account.
“Russia is interested in the fact that peace and prosperity reign in Ukraine. We will continue to find a way out of the Ukrainian crisis, but we will focus on all regions and all social groups that themselves must determine their future, ”said Ulyukaev.
The mayor also noted that if Kyiv signed an association agreement with the European Union, this may entail a revision of a number of bilateral agreements and standards. In addition, Ulyukaev warned that due to the inconsistency of European standards, Ukrainian goods would be exported mainly to the Russian rather than the European market, and this is an occasion to change the size of the duties operating between countries.
“It is possible that this will force us to revise the system of duties and fees that currently exist between Ukraine and the countries of the Customs Union, that is, Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan,” the minister said.
