© HNAValery Gergiev, appointed to the post of chief conductor of the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra, who has recently been abruptly criticized in Germany due to the support of the policy of the Russian authorities, made a statement explaining his position on this issue.
According to Deutsche Welle , on Tuesday, May 20, Gergiev published an open letter addressed to the public of the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra.
“I am a musician and conductor. However, at the same time I am Russian, and I am closely connected with my native country, ”the German text quotes the DPA news agency. The conductor indicated in a letter that he shares the life principles of the Russian people: “They also include observing taboos, which in recent years have no great importance in Western countries, but for the abolition of which many attempts and a lot of time are needed.”
The reason for the open letter, as the agency notes, was “difficult negotiations” between Gergiev and representatives of the city authorities Munich last Saturday, which, apparently, arose due to the requirements of some public representatives to break the contract of the Philharmonic Orchestra with the Russian conductor.
In his letter, Gergiev called for the continuation of the dialogue between the countries, indicating that the music was able to strengthen friendship between the peoples.
