Australia imposed new sanctions against Russia

Australia imposed new sanctions against Russia. This was reported by the country's foreign minister Julie Bishop. The list includes 38 citizens of Russia and Ukraine, guilty, according to the Australian authorities, in the destabilization of the situation in Ukraine, as well as 11 companies. The defendants in the list are prohibited from entering the country, and financial sanctions are also imposed against some of them.

“I am deeply concerned about the events in the east of Ukraine, which led to human victims,” Bishop said. “Australia is one with the Ukrainian people and again calls on Russia to change the course. Distribution in Ukraine should stop.”

Thus, in total, the Australian sanctions list now has 50 people and 11 enterprises. The first list, including 12 people, was adopted on March 19 , a few days after the "referendum" on the annexation of Crimea.

After a request to the office of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, ITAR-TASS specified that the names of persons who are prohibited from entering the country will not be published, and the defendants subjected to financial restrictions will be called only after the adoption of amendments to the 2011 law on the imposition of sanctions. As the official of the ministry explained, in this way the authorities want to exclude the risk of withdrawing funds from Australia.
