Cultural events next week

, a documentary film festival about music and contemporary culture, The Beat Film Festival starts on May 27 and will be the “anniversary” – the fifth one. On this occasion, it will last twice as long as usual - 13 days, which cannot but rejoice, since its program is not only rich - in addition to the actual film screenings, numerous musical events are planned, from live concerts to death to death parties - but also traditionally worth attention .

The opening film will be 20,000 Days on Earth, a fictional day in the life of Nick Cave, seen through the eyes of two contemporary artists, Ian Forsythe and Jane Pollard, and shot on camera by Eric Willson, master of the indie hits Double and Submarine.

In total, the main program of the festival included 10 documentaries, including "Good Old Frida" - the absolute favorite of the festival last year about the permanent secretary of The Beatles , Frida Kelly, who worked for the group longer than it existed, and for the first time told her story just now, a lot years later; Mistaken as Strangers, a film directed by Tom Berninger, brother of The National's vocalist Matt Berninger, which the influential music portal Pitchfork called "the funniest and most accurate movie about music since Spinal Tap "; "Punk Singer" - about the feminist and vocalist of the punk band Bikini Kill Kathleen Hannah, who is one of the main protagonists of the riot grrrl movement ; the film Pulp , in which Jarvis Cocker appears as a national British hero, whose songs are known by heart by the elderly on the street, the boobies in the pubs, and in general - and which shows not only the outcome of the iconic Britpop group, but also the environment thanks to which it appeared on light; and others.

Separately, it should be said that at the closing of the festival there will be a world premiere of the film "More" about the group "Auktyon", on which director Dmitry Lavrinenko has been working for 7 years. In addition, for the Beat's program has been specially prepared a Best of Beat fifth anniversary , which will include the most popular films of past years, one per year.

Retrospective The Pulse Films is a selection of films from the leading British production company that produces music videos for The XX , commercials for the Prada Foundation and documentaries about music and musicians, which premiere at the world's major festivals from Sundance to SXSW .

The Short Film program, of course, is short films. The main venues of the festival will be the Formula Kino Horizon and Illusion cinemas, the Documentary Film Center and the outdoor cinema of the Muzeon Arts Park. The audiovisual show "Manchester 80s" will be held on May 31 in the courtyard of the Strelka Institute for Media, Design and Architecture. Dmitry Alexandrovich Prigov was a poet, was an artist in the universal sense of the word and a sculptor in the concrete sense, was the founder of this, that and Moscow conceptualism. In his strategies, he violated, quite deliberately, many taboos of modernism and, later, postmodernism, exposed the totalitarian system of prohibitions of contemporary art as a negative theology and mockingly reflected on the categories of “sacred”, “sublime”, “beautiful”, “terrible”, “ugly ". The correlation of these categories in the art of Dmitry Alexandrovich Prigov became the main theme of the large-scale retrospective exhibition “Dmitry Prigov. From the Renaissance to Conceptualism and Beyond” , which is opening today at the Tretyakov Gallery on Krymsky Val .

Almost all types of art in which Dmitry Alexandrovich Prigov worked are presented, including large-scale graphic works and multi-part series. For the first time, viewers will have the opportunity to see the morphology of the artist's images, as well as the development of individual themes interpreted through animation.

The circus component of the director's reading is somewhat redundant, but, as they say, it has the right to exist.

The modern reader, as Mikhail Gershenzon wrote, is like a cyclist who “does not see the words because he does not look at them. In defense of the opposite principle of thoughtful “pedestrian” reading, philologist Semyon Parizhsky, orientalist Alexandra Polyan and art historian Dilshat Harman on May 25 in the DI Telegraph coworking space will hold a master class , demonstrating the possibilities of “slow reading” - analytical, collaborative and reading as a commentary - in relation to literary texts, cinema and painting.

These will be three mini-lectures : "Coffee and Cigarettes" - about the deep meaning of the cafe as a cultural institution based on selected short stories from the film of the same name by Jim Jarmusch, an excerpt from the Babylonian Talmud and an essay by Emmanuel Levinas "Judaism and Revolution"; "Jewish Crows and Jewish Foxes" - about how two authors deal with the textbook plot of Aesop's fable "The Crow and the Fox"; and “Tiered Reading” – in fact, about whether we gain something from standing in front of a painting / fresco / engraving longer or, on the contrary, lose all the freshness and immediacy of first impressions. The discussion will be based on the example of the painting by Pieter Brueghel the Elder "The Tower of Babel".

On May 28, guitarists Vyacheslav Golikov and Sergey Meritukov give a concert on the stage of the Theater of Music and Poetry n/r Elena Kamburova.
