Today, May 23, the Zamoskvoretsky court of Moscow on Friday recognized the demand of the prosecutor's office for the Memorial human rights center to register as a foreign agent.

Thus, RAPSI reports, the judge dismissed the complaint of the “memorial” about the actions of the prosecutor’s office, which said that the audit initiated by the deputy prosecutor in March and the idea of ​​the elimination of violations were illegal and illegal in April.

“We do not dispute the receipt of foreign financing, but the prosecutor’s office expressed the opinion that the“ memorial ”is involved in political activities and therefore should apply to the Ministry of Justice and enter the register of foreign agents,” said the applicant representative Kirill Koroteev.

He noted that the population of Russia still negatively perceives the phrase “foreign agent” and, according to the results of sociological research, associates it with espionage. According to the applicant, the prosecutor did not prove the fact of the organization of political actions or the formation of public opinion.

“The Memorial cannot call himself a foreign agent, this will be a blow to his reputation,” said Koroteev, noting that the organization will not voluntarily register as a foreign agent, because he does not consider itself to be such, and the demand of the prosecutor’s office, in his opinion, contradict the constitution.
