The joint prayer of representatives of Christian faiths for Ukraine will be held on May 24 in the Sofia Cathedral of Kyiv, which is part of the Sofia Kyiv National Reserve.
Such a decision was made the day before, at the meeting of the acting President of Ukraine, speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Alexander Turchinov with members of the All -Ukrainian Council of Churches. During the meeting, Turchinov came up with the initiative to pray on the "Day of Silence", the portal "Interfax-religion" reports.
“We go out with such an initiative that on the eve of the presidential election, when on the last day before voting, that is, on Saturday, the so -called“ Day of Silence ”passes, when any agitation, propaganda is prohibited, it would be important for our country to conduct a general prayer for Ukraine,” Turchinov quotes Liga.net .
“So that on this day, on the eve of a very important choice for our state, all churches, all denominations united in a common prayer to God, so that he blesses Ukraine, that Ukraine has peace, tranquility and consent, so that Ukrainians would make their important and right choice,” Turchinov summed up.
According to the interfax-religion portal, he also said that the "spiritual foundation that all the churches of our state builds must strengthen and unite the state."
As you know, the first tour of the presidential elections in Ukraine will be held this Sunday, May 25. Voters will be able to vote for 21 candidates for the post of head of state. The early elections of the President of Ukraine will be observed by 2784 international observers, LIGA.NET notes.
