Obama arrived in Afghanistan

US President Barack Obama arrived in Afghanistan to meet with the American military, which is part of international security assistance forces. On Sunday, his plane landed in Bagram - the main military base of the United States in Afghanistan.

According to American officials, Obama does not plan to meet with Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai in order to avoid interference in the electoral process in the country. On June 14, the second round of the presidential election was appointed in Afghanistan.

After the withdrawal of the main combat units of the United States from Afghanistan at the end of 2014, Washington intends to leave a limited number of American military personnel in the country for the training of Afghan security forces and the implementation of a mission to combat terrorism.

Karzai refused to sign an US agreement on security cooperation regulating the stay of the American military in Afghanistan since 2015. Both candidates who will fight for the presidency in the second round said they would sign this document. Hamid Karzai did not participate in the latest elections of the head of state, since, in accordance with the country's constitution, the presidential post cannot be occupied by more than two terms.
