In search of the first work

The Career.ru website decided to find out how much time young specialists spend in search of work and what difficulties they face. It turned out that the search for the first work takes at least a month.

On average, students and graduates have to spend up to 7 weeks. A third of the young specialists surveyed were spent on the search for the first job for 1-2 months. Only 3% of respondents said they were able to find the first work within a week. Four times more young people spent more than 3 months (12%).

68% of the respondents admitted that they were faced with the problem of distrust or unwillingness of the employer to hire a specialist without experience, and 32% considered all available offers uninteresting. In addition, 41% of respondents experienced difficulties in coordinating the desired salary, and 12% for a long time could not find the position of interest with a convenient work schedule. At the same time, none of the young specialists surveyed complained that there were no specialized offers in his specialty.

Every second Career.ru interviewed, a young specialist admitted that it was not easy to find the first job, and every fifth put a lot of effort to this. At the same time, 21% of respondents said that, in principle, they did not experience any particular difficulties.

The survey was conducted by a portal for young specialists Career.ru on May 1–22, 2014 among 2,500 young specialists.
