The Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill addressed Petro Poroshenko with a personal message, who won the presidential election in Ukraine, in which he shared his hopes for a quick cessation of bloodshed in the country and asked the new president to listen to the opinion of all its inhabitants.

As stated in a letter posted on the official website of the Moscow Patriarchate, "the news of the events in Ukraine every day brings all the new pain, because people die and suffer. The country is immersed in the abyss of contention and feud." The Patriarch hopes that the authority that ended up in Poroshenko’s hands will serve the good of the East, the West, the North, and the South of Ukraine ”and that“ in this situation, it is necessary to maintain an open dialogue with the people and public leaders, to listen to the opinion of all the inhabitants of the country. ”

"I hope that bloodshed will forever cease, that no one will be oppressed or humiliated, that the life, worldview and cultural choice of each group of the country's population will be realized, that church life will proceed without any state or political intervention, and the decisions necessary to normalize, improve and development of this life will be made freely and unstressed, in the spirit of fidelity," concluded, " The Primate of the Church, wishing Poroshenko "of God's leadership in all the upcoming labors and responsible decisions."

The presidential elections of Ukraine took place last Sunday, May 25. According to the Ukrainian CEC, the oligarch and the owner of the Roshen confectionery factory, who is called the "chocolate king", gained more than 50% of the votes, while his rivals, including the former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko, could not overcome the 20 percent barrier. Without waiting for the official elections of the elections, Poroshenko already announced his presidential program , declaring his main task to ensure peace in Ukraine and, in particular, the settlement of the situation in the Donbass. Moreover, he intends to do this in active cooperation with Russia.

In particular, Poroshenko said that he intends to go to the Donbass in the near future to "talk with those people who do not take weapons and are open for negotiations."
