At a meeting of the Urban Planning Council of St. Petersburg, director Alexander Sokurov called on to join for the convicted city -defender Denis Levkin. It is reported by Fontanka.ru.

Sokurov made a proposal to send an appeal addressed to the city prosecutor Sergei Litvinenko to change the sentence to Levkin. According to him, in the deprivation of Levkin’s freedom there is both the fault of experts and older city defenders - in early 2013 they did not support the young anarchists who defended the Packgauz of the Warsaw Station from the prospect of demolition.

“We also stood in front of the bulldozers and resisted the demolition of buildings in the city center at one time. And they also grabbed me by the arms and legs and tried to take me away,” Sokurov recalled.

However, the members of the city council did not support Sokurov. “We will not vote against a court decision,” said Oleg Rybin, the head of the Committee on Urban Planning and Architecture.

Levkin is 21 years old. He was a student of the lyceum at large. At the beginning of 2013, the activist took part in the defense of the Pakgauz of the Warsaw Station - a historical monument, which was threatened with demolition. In January 2013, the city defenders captured the building and arranged a squat in it. On the evening of February 4, police officers, including riot police, began to expel activists . In the course of clashes, law enforcement officers, stated, received bodily harm.

About 20 city defenders were detained according to administrative articles, and Levkin was charged with part 2 of Article 318 of the Criminal Code (the application of dangerous violence to a representative of the authorities). On February 7, 2013, the court sent an activist to a pre -trial detention center . In the TFR it was stated that Levkin "caused the senior sergeant and the warrant officer of the police closed head injuries, bruised and torn heads of the head."

At the end of March 2013, Packgauswas almost completely demolished .

On February 12 of this year, the judge of the Leninsky District Court of St. Petersburg Irina Ezhvertina sentenced Levkin to four years of general regime . In the verdict, the judge noted that the appointment of a conditional term would not have reached the goal of punishment.

In March 2013, Sokurov announced his intention to stop public and city protection activities . “I am not the person who can influence the process that is going,” he said at the creative evening in the Petersburg Gallery of Erarta. Sokurov explained that "the result of social activity is that they listen to your point of view," while he could not stop the demolition of historical buildings in St. Petersburg with his performances.
