Russian boxer Dmitry Chudinov defended the title of interim world middleweight champion (up to 72.6 kg) according to the World Boxing Association (WBA), defeating Danish Patrick Nielsen on points.

Dmitry Chudinov won the first prestigious title in his career at the end of last year, when he dealt with Colombian Juan Camilo Novoa. And he got there very quickly - in just 14 fights. The speed was ensured by the talents of the famous promoter Vladimir Khryunov working with Chudinov, who always knew how to find the shortest path to the belt for his players, and by his own undoubted talents. He is a very tough and very ambitious fighter.

Dmitry Chudinov defended his title in Mytishchi in a battle against the strong Dane Patrick Nielsen, who had never lost in his professional career. And he aroused sympathy for two reasons. Firstly, because, as usual, he fought very aggressively, not trying to sit out in the trenches. And secondly, because he was very self-critical in assessing the battle, admitting that he had made mistakes.

Chudinov really had a good fight, but not perfect. Actually, if it weren’t for these mistakes, the Russian would definitely have finished off Nielsen, who often found himself in rather uncomfortable situations - pressed against the rope, under fire. And so the Dane survived until the final gong and even, perhaps, hoped in his heart that the judges would give him victory on points. But only one of them considered the fight more or less equal. This referee found that Chudinov won with a score of 115:113. On the maps of the other two judges, the Russian’s advantage was much more convincing - 116:112 and 117:111.

This is how Dmitry Chudinov saved his almost clean track record, which now includes 13 won fights and two draws. True, in order for this list to look truly solid, Chudinov lacks matches against top, star fighters. And his next fight could just be against a boxer from this category. In any case, Vladimir Khryunov has already reported that he was contacted by a representative of the famous Australian boxer Sam Soliman, who had just taken the International Boxing Federation championship belt from the German Felix Sturm.
