President Vladimir Putin accepted the early resignation of the Governor of the Samara Region Nikolai Merkushkin, the Kremlin press service reports . The head of the region intends to take part in the elections in September 2014.

According to Merkushkin, he "would like to go through the people, to the polls." Based on the people's will, the governor noted, it will be possible to more effectively solve various problems in the Samara region, in particular, in the field of housing and communal services. Merkushkin recalled that he was appointed as presidential decree two years ago.

Earlier, Putin accepted the early resignations of the governors of the Vologda region Oleg Kuvshinnikov, the Orenburg region of Yuri Berg, the Tyumen region of Vladimir Yakushev, the Lipetsk region Oleg Korolev, the Kursk region Alexander Mikhailov, the Murmansk region of Marina Kovtun, the head of Kalmykia Alexei Orlov.
