"25 years ago, we witnessed the impossible - the elections when your people first had a real choice. The communist regime lost and won the opposition. It was a huge victory of freedom. It was the beginning of the end of communism, not only in this country, but throughout Europe," Obama said.

"On June 4, 1989, the forces of freedom defeated the only partially free election, the old regime was defeated. It was a political knockout, the authorities lost, despite the best conditions and guarantees for the ruling Communist Party. The people finally got the opportunity to decide their fate, won by voting, without violence, a single drop of blood," Komorovsky said, and emphasized that Polish was the first The country of the former socialist camp, where the communist regime managed to defeat.

Earlier, Obama met in Warsaw with the elected President of Ukraine Peter Poroshenko. As the Radio Liberty correspondent reports, politicians discussed the possible ways of peaceful settlement of the situation in the eastern part of Ukraine, economic assistance to this country and reducing its dependence on Russian energy carriers. Barack Obama also stated that Petro Poroshenko’s choice for the presidency of Ukraine was a “wise choice”, and wished him success in a “transitional period to the country”.
