US gives Putin another chance

The main topic of discussions during the European tour of Barack Obama was relations with Russia

Participation in the celebrations dedicated to the seventh anniversary of the landing of the Allied forces in Normandy, on Friday the four -day European tour of US President Barack Obama ended.

For four days, President Obama visited four countries, held negotiations with the leaders of Poland, the heads of the partner countries on the Big Seven, paid tribute to veterans who participated seventy years ago in the landing of the Union forces in Normandy, but the main topic of the European tour of the US president was, more precisely, the attitude towards the recent partner who demonstrated the willingness to demonstrate the readiness to aggression.

On Tuesday, East European countries heard the most serious assurances for the entire time of the presidency of Barack Obama that the United States used all their power to protect the allies. “Our free peoples are one,” President Obama proclaimed, “further Russian provocations will lead to a greater isolation and turn into a higher price for Russia ... We will not allow the dark methods of the 21st century to determine the 21st century.” President Obama added a promise to achieve the allocation of a billion dollars, which will be spent on the rotation of the American military units in Eastern Europe, to patrol the aircraft of the airspace of these countries and to help Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine in the preparation of its armed forces.

Judging by the statements, the development of the Russian strategy was the main issue during the meeting of Barack Obama with partners in the "Big Seven". Two days of meetings of the Seven in Brussels ended with numerous warnings of the heads of Western countries that the Kremlin needs to recognize the new Ukrainian government, stop supporting separatists in eastern Ukraine and even ensure their disarmament, otherwise Moscow is threatened with a new round of serious sanctions.

But on Friday, after the meetings of Vladimir Putin with the heads of France, Great Britain and Germany, short, on the course of the exchange of opinions of Vladimir Putin and Barack Obama, the tone of unofficial statements of people from the encirclement of the American president clearly changed.

The Washington Post, for example, quotes American representatives who say that discussions with the Russian president were “productive”, Putin and Poroshenko’s negotiations are “positive development of events” that the White House is now “more optimistic” about the development of events in Ukraine. In other words, Washington is inclined to the fact that diplomacy is currently preferable to other options for actions. It is curious that in an interview with NBC, given in Normandy, President Obama refrained from criticism by Vladimir Putin, but recalled the examples of American-Russian cooperation.

Former US presidential candidate Mitt Romny believes that the American president made a mistake:

- I think that Putin again beat our president in the world arena. In my opinion, most observers admit that while Russia's status in the world has increased, the status of America has decreased.

Barack Obama has always preferred cooperation with Russia pressure on it, diplomacy - decisive warnings. But in the eyes of many Americans, the Ukrainian crisis clearly demonstrated the unrealism of such a foreign policy strategy of the United States. Less than 40% of Americans approve of the foreign policy of President Obama, 55%, according to the latest FoxNews survey, believe that such a policy has weakened the United States.
