
In Moscow, 500 plots for voting in preliminary elections to the Moscow City Duma organized by the civil initiative "My Moscow", Interfax reports.
In total, 1033 candidates participate in the primaries. Among them are 19 current deputies, including the chairman of the Duma Vladimir Platonov. According to Konstantin Remchukov, the chief of the “independent newspaper” and one of the coordinators of the My Moscow Civil Initiative, these elections can help citizens in advance the issues important for them when choosing candidates and figure out “which is more in the candidate’s program: water or specific proposals”. Remchukov recalled that almost anyone could register for the primaries, and as a prize for the winners of the preliminary vote, it would be possible to hang a billboard with their photograph in the constituency for two weeks.
Member of the Moskvy accounting commission, the cosmonaut, Alexei Leonov, said that the inspection of one of the sites showed the full readiness of the organizers for the elections. According to him, thanks to the primaries, voters will receive a "certain idea of people who want to work in the Moscow City Duma."
“It’s right that there are many ordinary Muscovites on the list. They do not pursue any selfish ideas, as a result of preliminary voting, probably, people who are able to engage in serious work will be revealed, who in the future can become great politicians with an honest soul, ”added Leonov.
Elections to the Moscow City Duma will take place on a single voting day on September 14 and will be held according to the majority system.
