Presidential elections will be held in Israel

The presidential election will be held on June 10 in Israel, the deputies of the parliament (Knesset) will have to elect the head of state through secret voting, ITAR-TASS reports.

According to the agency, 5 people claim the highest state post. Reuven Rinvin is a former speaker of the Knesset, a member of the Likud Right Party, who heads the ruling coalition. Israeli media consider him the favorite of the presidential race.

Dalia ICIK is a former speaker of the Knesset. In January-July 2007, she acted as the President of Israel due to the fact that then this post Moshe Katsav went on vacation and later resigned due to accusations of sexual harassment.

Meir Shitrite is a former Minister of Internal Affairs, a member of the Leo -centric party "Ha -Tnua" ("Movement"), which is part of the ruling coalition.

Dalia Dorner is a former judge of the Supreme Court of Israel (1993-2004). Since 2006 - President of the Israeli Association of Journalists.

Daniel Shekhtman - professor, Nobel laureate in chemistry for 2011 "For the opening of quasicristals." Nevertheless, he believes that the lack of experience does not mean the lack of a political vision of the situation.

For election in the first round, the candidate must receive at least 61 votes of the deputies of the Knesset. Each deputy can vote only for one candidate. If none of the candidates gained the required number of votes, the second voting round is immediately held, in which 61 votes also need to be gained to win. It is possible to carry out the third and subsequent rounds of voting, in which it is enough to get a simple majority to win.
