Anti -terrorism exercises took place in the Arctic

On June 10 and 11, planned command and staff anti-terrorism exercises took place on the coast of the Barents Sea. They were carried out by the combined group of forces and means of the operational headquarters of the Arkhangelsk and Murmansk regions, as well as the NAO in the village of Varandes in Naryan-Mar.

Recall that in November 2013, Russian President Vladimir Putin approved the country's public security concept until 2020. The corresponding document is on the Kremlin’s official website. He determines the state policy to increase the security of citizens. In particular, the concept involves conducting complex targeted programs aimed at improving the level of security in terms of terrorist threat. The implementation of the concept should be carried out in two stages: from 2013 to 2016. and from 2017 to 2020.

This problem in public discussions was updated according to the results of the attack in Volgograd at the very end of December 2013, on the eve of the Olympics in Sochi. “Volgograd was chosen by a place to conduct terrorist attacks. The name of this city has already become embarrassed on the pages of the foreign press. Therefore, the task of the organizers of the attack was to make an informational occasion as strong as possible. Plus, of course, the approaching New Year holidays and holidays in children. The organizers needed to have the terrorist attack as much resonance as possible, ”Andrei Popov, a member of the Anti -Terrier Anti -Terrror Association, reports RT . Meanwhile, work to improve the level of security is carried out throughout the country. Anti-terrorism teachings in Naryan-Mar were the first experience of such maneuvers in the conditions of the Arctic region. The event was attended by more than 500 people, including representatives of the territorial security bodies and border bodies of the Arkhangelsk and Murmansk regions, police officers, the Federal Security Service, the Ministry of Emergencies with the support of aviation of the FSB of Russia and the Northern Fleet.
The maneuvers, according to B-port , took place in several stages. Initially, a set of priority measures was worked out aimed at searching and neutralizing the conditional sabotage and terrorist group in the NAO, which “intended” to commit a terrorist attack on one of the objects of marine economic activity. At the next stage, the “group of militants” captured hostages in the administrative building of the Varandee oil shipping terminal of LUKOIL OJSC and took control of the sea ice -resistant shipyard, installed in the territorial sea. According to the results of the training operation "terrorists" were neutralized, and there were no losses among the "hostages".

It should be noted that in the northern regions of the country, increasing public security is included in the comprehensive set of programs for the implementation of the "May decrees" of the president. At the beginning of 2014, Marina Kovtun, then the Governor of the Murmansk Region, and now the acting governor, emphasized that "the strategy of socio-economic development of the Murmansk region took into account all the provisions of the development strategy of the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation and ensuring national security for the period until 2020, signed on February 25 last year by Russian President Vladimir Putin." A little earlier, Kovtun also noted the increase in security as one of the priority tasks: “Our task is to maximize the safety of the population of the Murmansk region. Create all the conditions so that citizens are protected with feelings. ”
