1914 Yuri Andropov was born

100 years ago, on June 15, 1914, Yuri Vladimirovich Andropov was born, Chairman of the KGB in 1967-1982 and General Secretary of the Central Committee of the CPSU from November 1982 to February 1984.

He was the grandson of the prominent Moscow jeweler Karl Fleckenstein, but his unsuitable social background did not prevent him from a successful party career.

His environment created the image of Andropov as a jazz lover, an intellectual and a liberal. In fact, Yuri Vladimirovich, whom the current president of Russia considers in many ways his spiritual father, tried to bring back Stalin's times by tightening the previously completely non-liberal censorship and rounding up those who dared to leave work during the working day.
