Gazprom refused to change positions in gas negotiations with Ukraine

In Kyiv, negotiations on gas prices between Russia and Ukraine were completed with the participation of the European Commission. Gazprom refused to change its position on gas tariffs, RIA Novosti reports with reference to the official representative of the concern Sergey Kupriyanov.

“The Russian side expects the payment of accumulated gas debt in the amount of 1951 million dollars until 10 a.m. on June 16. In case of non -receipt of funds, as previously announced, gas supplies to Ukraine are transferred to prepayment regime, ”the agency’s interlocutor said.

Kupriyanov added that the negotiations between the head of Gazprom, Alexei Miller, Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk and the European Commissioner in Energy Gunter Ettinger ended at 2:30 Moscow time. At the same time, the Ambassador of the Russian Federation in Ukraine, Mikhail Zurabov, who was part of the Russian delegation, noticed in response to the question of journalists that negotiations will continue.

Earlier, Gazprom set a transition to an advance payment in relations with Kiev at the beginning of June, after which the date was repeatedly postponed. At the negotiations, the Russian side proposed setting a gas price of $ 385 per thousand cubic meters, taking into account a discount of $ 100. Kyiv refused, saying that Moscow could cancel a discount at any time.

Ukraine, in turn, is ready to buy gas for $ 326 per thousand cubic meters - a compromise price proposed by the European Commission. In Naftogaz of Ukraine, they also expressed their readiness to pay off the debt if Gazprom agrees to such a price. At the same time, Yatsenyuk ordered to prepare the country for the cessation of Russian gas supplies, as well as file a lawsuit in Stockholm arbitration in order to challenge the tariff proposed by Moscow. Ukraine will have enough of its own gas reserves until October 2014.
