South Ossetia recognized the independence of the "Lugansk People's Republic." This was reported by Interfax with reference to the leader of the Lugansk terrorists Valery Bolotov. On Wednesday, Bolotov promised to appoint the "ambassador" of the LPR in the Georgian region controlled by Russia.

The press service of the President and the Government of South Ossetia confirmed the information. Officials noted that the “president” Leonid Tibilov, having received an appeal from the “Supreme Council of the LPR” with a request to recognize the “republic”, gathered a meeting during which it was decided, “guided by the generally recognized norms of international law,” make a “constructive decision”.

Only four countries recognize state sovereignty of South Ossetia: Russia, Venezuela, Nicaragua and Nauru. Previously, the regional independence was also recognized by Vanuatu and Tuval, but later they recalled their confession: Vanuatu in July 2013, Tuvalo in March 2014. Both of these countries eventually chose to establish diplomatic relations with Georgia.

In early June, the next parliamentary elections took place in South Ossetia. The European Union said that he does not intend to recognize their results , as he supports the territorial integrity of Georgia.
