Announced Long list of the Enlightener Prize

Today, June 19, a list of 24 applicants for victory in the Popular Popular Award of the Enlightener 2014 season was announced in Moscow.

Long List was announced by the co-chairs of the Organizing Committee of the Prize-writer and TV presenter Alexander Arkhangelsky and head of the Institute of Book Alexander Gavrilov.

In 2014, the long list of the prize included books sent by central and regional publishers, researchers, presented by the Organizing Committee of the Prize, the Dynastia Foundation, a club of scientific journalists, as well as the prize recommended by the Council of the Jury, Finamenists and laureates of the premium of past years.

In total, more than 130 applications were submitted. The selection of books on a long list was held by the Organizing Committee of the Prize.

“If you noticed, we have only 24 books on our long list today, and not 25.” Alexander Arkhangelsky commented on the co -chairman of the Award Organizing Committee. - And this means that we did not artificially draw the desired numbers. It is better to say that selected books should participate in the competition, and the rest of the organizing committee for one reason or another (sometimes formal, sometimes informal) did not include in the long list. ”

Arkhangelsk also commented on the refusal of the Enlightener Award from participating in the Moscow International Open Book Festival: “In general, I am against a boycott in the cultural sphere. But in this situation, we could not help but express the protest. Education and censorship are incompatible things, and enlightenment and cowardice are even more so. ”

A short list of the prize will be announced at a press conference on September 25. The solemn announcement of the 2014 prize laureates is scheduled for the third Thursday of November, i.e. This year the ceremony will be held on November 20. On the eve of the award ceremony, a festival of science and popular science literature “Enlightener Day” will be held.
