The Berlin School is one of the most original artistic areas of the German cinema of the 1990s and 2000s. The films "Berlin School" created an expressive portrait of Europe and Europeans in the past decade.
In 2013, a large retrospective of the Berintsev was held at the New York Museum of Contemporary Art, monographs were written about them, but in Russia this cinematic direction was still known only to a narrow circle of spectators and connoisseurs of cinema. Therefore, Goethe-Institute decided to present at the 36th MMKF a cycle of film works of directors of the Berlin School.
In the first films of the program, discussions with film journalists from Germany Saskia Valker ( Revolver magazine) and Michael Bauete ( NewFilmkritik.de ) will take place.
Films for the show at the MMKF was selected by the curators of the program Tatyana Kiryanova (Goethe-Institute) and Mikhail Ratgauz (CoLTA.RU). The book “On the Berlin School of Berlin is published on the MMKF program. A quiet revolution in European cinema. "
In addition, together with the French Institute in Russia, Goethe-Institute will present at the 36th MMKF the Great Illusion section dedicated to the centenary of the First World War.

Cinema historians and film critics from France, Germany and Russia after the show will discuss films with the audience. On June 25, at the State Theater of the film actor, the round table “The Great Illusion will be held.
