The speaker of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko proposed introducing a special gathering for tourists for visiting Russian historical cities. It is reported by RBC. “I think any tourist who comes to historical centers, cultural centers will not regret 3-5 dollars, 100-150 rubles, so that they go to restore historical monuments,” said the head of the upper house, speaking at the forum “Historical and Cultural Heritage of Russia” in Vladimir.

Matvienko noted that the Ministry of Finance does not support such an initiative, but promised to "continue to work out this issue in order to positively solve it."

According to the publication, from June 1, a similar tax planned to introduce Egypt authorities. From all tourists arriving at the airports of Alexandria, South Sinai, Hurghada, Luxor and Asuan, it was supposed to levy $ 7 - development tax. However, later the introduction of this fee was postponed indefinitely.

Similar taxes and fees are charged in a number of other countries of the world. Since 2011, tourists who come to Kyiv and Lviv are required to pay a fee, which is 1 percent of the cost of living in a hotel. In Italy, local authorities have the right to tax visitors in the amount of not more than 5 euros per person per night. The municipalities of Rome, Venice, Florence, Rimini, Assisi and other cities took advantage of this right. Also among countries where similar fees, Spain, Croatia, and the UAE are introduced.
