June 20 at 9:00 in the 235th garrison military court (Moscow, Chusovskaya St., 1), in the video conference mode, the next court hearing will be held on the complaint of Igor Matveev.
Former Major of the internal troops Matveev Matveev gained fame after he posted a video on corruption in the military unit in May 2011. In particular, the major argued that the supplies of stew in the prodsclad were actually dog conservals with reinstated labels, and labor migrants lived in the location.
After that, a number of criminal cases were instituted against Matveev. At the moment, there is a trial in the case, instituted in April 2012, at the request of one of the soldiers, who claims that Matveev had extorted a bribe from him for closing the case of desertion. Matveev is accused under articles on exceeding official powers with the use of violence or the threat of its application and fraud, a perfect person using an official position.
In September 2011, Matveev was convicted on a falsified charges of “abuse of authority, perfect with the use of violence or with the threat of its use” (paragraph “a” of part 3 of article 286 of the Criminal Code) by 3 years 6 months of imprisonment with deprivation of military rank. The sentence is based solely on the testimony of persons, “unexpectedly” after the speech of Matveev who remembered the events of many months ago. Many of them themselves were under investigation, including in connection with the exposures of Matveev. The witnesses, who had testified in the court in favor of Matveev, were subjected to pressure and themselves were brought to criminal liability for “permits”. According to the Working Group of the Council under the President for the Development of Civil Society and Human Rights, the investigation and court in the Matveev case went with gross procedural violations.
The Union of Solidarity with the political prisoners and the human rights center "Memorial" recognize Matveev as political prisoner.
