
From June 20 to June 27, all units of the Armed Forces, the National Guard and the State Border Service of Ukraine cease the fighting so that members of illegal armed groups can lay down weapons. This was stated by President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, the press service of the head of state reports . At the same time, he emphasized that "in the event that an armed attack on Ukrainian units or a civilian population is committed, our military will open fire."
"The head of state noted that this peaceful plan phase takes place in coordination with OSCE inspectors and has a clearly limited time so that everyone who supports the president’s plan has the opportunity to lay down weapons," the statement said. Poroshenko urged everyone to support actions aimed at a peaceful settlement of the situation in the east of the state.
The decision on the ceasefire was made after a meeting at the headquarters of the anti -terrorist operation. It was attended by the First Deputy Head of the ATC, Viktor Muzhenko, the commander of the National Guard Stepan Poltorak, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Andrei Parubiy, acting Minister of the Interior Arsen Avakov, as well as representatives of the border service. The meeting ended at 19:15 (20:15 Moscow time).
Poroshenko is on the first working trip to the Donetsk region. He accepted the report of General Vitaly Muzhenko on the completion of the operation to establish on the border of the defense regime. Poroshenko also handed over thermal imagers, body armor and binoculars of night observation to the military and the fighters of the National Guard, who serve on checkpoints. In the city of Svyatogorsk, at a meeting with residents and immigrants from Slavyansk, the president spoke about the peaceful plan to resolve the situation in the region.
On Wednesday, Poroshenko said that the implementation of a peaceful plan to resolve the conflict in the Donetsk and Lugansk regions will begin on his order on a one -sided ceasefire . “I can say that the time of the ceasefire will be quite short. We expect that immediately after that the disarmament of military units, restoring order will take place,” Poroshenko noted. “We expect that hostages captured by houses will be released. We expect that a large number of civilians will take advantage of the security of Donbass citizens.”
The president emphasized that for his part, the authorities would offer an amnesty to those who have not committed serious crimes, and the organization of the corridor to leave the disarmed militants from the territory of Ukraine.
The peace plan consists of 14 points, the president noted. Key elements of the plan - the closure of the border of Ukraine with Russia and amending the Constitution, providing for the decentralization of power. Poroshenko also stated that he "delegates a significant part of his powers in terms of appointing heads of regional and regional administrations to territorial communities." The president will have only control, coordinating and supervisory functions through his representative offices.
