Twitter vice president may meet with the leadership of Roskomnadzor

Twitter Vice President Colin Crowell will visit Russia on June 23-25 ​​on a business visit. This was reported by ITAR TASS, citing publication in the newspaper Izvestia . During the trip, Crowell plans to meet with representatives of state bodies and large Internet companies. Information about the planned meeting was confirmed by Rambler & Co and the Russian Association of Electronic Communications (RAEC).

According to the newspaper, at the beginning of his visit, Crowell will meet with the heads of Roskomnadzor to discuss the legislative regulation of the Internet in Russia. First of all, the law on "three thousand bloggers" will be discussed, which will enter into force on the first of August and oblige the Internet company to store various user data and provide them with law enforcement agencies. In addition, the law will oblige popular bloggers to register in a special registry .

It can be assumed that Crowell’s arrival is directly related to the sensational statement of the deputy head of Roskomnadzor Maxim Ksenzov, who did not rule out the possibility of blocking Twitter in Russia for violating the requirements of the new law. Later, criticism of the official’s careless words was made by the main user of the service in the country, Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, and as a result, Ksenzov was reprimanded.

"The main goal of Crowella's arrival is to decide whether to register the Russian representative office and obey local law or continue to conduct a current policy," the source of Izvestia said in the government.

Sources do not exclude what Twitter can also be presented with SVZI Minister Nikolai Nikiforov, however, the Ministry of Communications, as well as in Rospotrebnadzor, did not confirm meetings with Cronwell.
