The head of the Sewol ferry company did not plead guilty

The General Director of the South Korean company Swim Sewol, who crashed in mid-April, denies the accusations of an unconditional murder, which became the result of gross negligence. It is reported by Yonhap .

On June 20, hearings were held in the case of the head of Chonghezhin, Kim Khan Siki and four of his subordinates. According to his lawyer, he “feels a difficult responsibility for this incident who has entailed many victims”, but does not believe that the carelessness he showed caused the disaster. The rest of the defendants also did not admit their guilt.

The prosecutor's office believes that Chonghejin, trying to increase its profit, constantly overloaded the ferry despite the fact that the ship became less stable after repair.

The crew of the Sewol ferry, who are charged with negligence and violation of the laws of navigation, also refused to recognize responsibility for the death of passengers.

The Swol steam crashed off the southwestern coast of South Korea on April 16. At the time of the disaster, there were 476 people on the ship. Most passengers were students who went to the resort city on the coast. The number of cream victims was 292 people. Another 12 passengers of the ferry are still listed as missing.

In the case of the crash of the vessel, 20 people were detained - employees of Chonghejzhin, crew members and employees of the Korean shipping Association - on suspicion of violation of safety rules and corruption.
