Discuss Andrey Kirillov, Vadim Kovalev, Valeria Androsenko, Elena Yarmanova, Diana Koroleva and Alexander Sidorkin
Tamara Lyalenkova: Today we will discuss what and how can be improved in Russian education in terms of participants in the “Innovation in Education” contest, which is held by the Higher School of Economics. I must say right away that most of the projects are sent to this competition by students and graduates who are not pedagogical specialties, and that is why, as it seems to me, in their works they try to solve the most obvious problems. For example, how to help the school teacher, where the average USE score is below 40, increase the level of teaching?
This became the theme of the project of Elena Yarmanova from St. Petersburg. In addition to her, in the Moscow studio - the project manager "Electronic School Vadim Kovalev ; Director of the Department of Education Programs of the Institute of Education of the Higher School of Economics, Alexander Sidorkin ; and director of the competition Diana Koroleva . On Skype on the phone, Andrei Kirillov and Valery Androsenko from Krasnoyarsk will be told about their works.
I have the first question to Alexander. The authors of the work have a very different education, today we have in the studio - phizteh, international relations ... Why was it decided to arrange a competition among non -professionals in the field of education?
Alexander Sidorkin: We did not exclude teachers, and they also play a big role, we just need to understand that education is not only a secondary school, but this is a huge industry. Russia spends about 5 percent of its gross national product on education. We are about a percentage behind leading countries, we must spend 6 at least or 7-8, like the United States. Brazil recently announced that they would bring to 10. But I want to say that education is a very wide set of industries, there is an additional education, there is an informal education, family and so on. And it is not surprising that many people respond to this matter, it determines the economy in a sense and the future of the country. Those people who have innovative ideas and the concept of a social mission, they gravitate towards education.
The point here is not only in quantity, but also in quality. Innovation is an important component of education. Recently, we received a report from the OECD about the innovation of education, and they showed that there is a direct dependence between how innovative education in the country and what results it achieves. Therefore, we are not at all from entertainment, we did not start boredom, but we need innovations in education, and we need to stimulate them.
Tamara Lyalenkova: The work was very different, and there were several stages, at first there were an essay, because the projects that had already interested ... There were some kind of unexpected stories for you, which were either no good, or vice versa, were ahead of your most advanced hopes?
Diana Koroleva: The first stage was an essay competition. These are two different competitions - an essay competition and a project competition. Students participated in the essay competition, completely different, from different parts of Russia, and not only Russia, there are about 8 countries there were participating countries. And the project competition is still some ideas, projects, more or less implemented, with some prototypes.
Tamara Lyalenkova: And among the essays you noticed any trends? What do people most like to change in the education system, maybe?
Diana Koroleva: essays are more a descriptive thing, that is, students offered their own vision. In some works, it was so ghostly and unrealized. The project competition is a more mundane thing, although there were many projects that specialists in the field of education could seem not entirely applicable in practice.
Tamara Lyalenkova: Are these naive things or is there a clear idea that you need to change in principle?
Diana Koroleva: I can say that projects at different levels of education are directed - preschool, family, school, and university education. Therefore, I cannot track some trends.
Tamara Lyalenkova: Elena, your project was called a "teacher for Russia." This is such a very painful topic, complex, and new federal standards must be implemented, and teachers do not have the skills laid down in these standards. Why did you begin to do this?
Elena Yarmanova: To do projects related to education, as I noticed, you should have either to be in it a little longer, teach something, or someone is a teacher in your family. My personal story is my grandmother was a teacher of the Russian language and literature, and I have a very strong sense of respect for the teacher's profession. What is not at all a reality, as statistics shows, for the whole of Russia, because very low indicators of the prestige of the profession of the teacher itself, and our project is also aimed at solving this problem. As for the program itself, there is also a personal story. I ended international relations, and I had a lot of foreign friends, and there were guys who had the opportunity to work in the State Department, for example, or in other good structures, but they chose to participate in the Titchefo America program, and in the end they remained there. This program all over the world has been going on for two years, but the guys have been so inspired by the education itself that they still continue to work in schools, in dysfunctional schools, in various. I was struck by the very result of such a practical involvement in education and those opportunities that this involvement gives to change the system, and those real results that it brings.
Tamara Lyalenkova: Many schools do not show their average points on the exam so as not to scare away future students, not to demonstrate themselves in such a quality. You went to some Russian schools, looked what was happening there?
Elena Yarmanova: Of course, we walked. I am from St. Petersburg, and the pilot stage of the project will focus in St. Petersburg, because we better understand this region, there are developed connections and contacts. We went to the educational center 162, for example, and there are children who spoil the school performance. There is a very large turnover of teachers and children, a constant replenishment of classes, which does not make it possible to establish a normal teaching system. This is very different from schools in which we all studied.
Tamara Lyalenkova: I want to talk about "electronic schools", and this story is so peculiar. Vadim graduated from MFTI and taught there as a graduate student, as a university teacher. Why did your interest remained inside the school too?
Vadim Kovalev: Yes, our educational institution takes away the frames of applicants very much in advance, in a few years, and this process is set systematically, I worked in it for some time. I organized the Olympiads, conducted them, checked, composed. That is, I went through all the stages - from filling the profiles of thousands of participants and their recognition, the methodological side ... Moreover, I went this side from two sides. The whole team of "Electronic School" is, in fact, Olympiads, regional and above, in mathematics, physics and computer science. And we went on the part of the participants and then from the organizers, during the work in the unit on Fiztekh. And then we rested on the ceiling inside the university, and then we began to do the same work, but to the open circle of users, throughout Russia. The goals have changed a bit. Fiztekh had a goal, she still has - early career guidance, reaching the best schoolchildren to admission to higher educational institutions, again the best, these are units of educational institutions and several thousand people in the country, and we have a massive, schoolchildren - we have a little less than a million schoolchildren every year, and we have more than 13 million schoolchildren. And it is with such a much wider circle of people that we are now working.
Tamara Lyalenkova: When you went to school, you looked, did you understand what was happening at school now? Or were these the best schools, and you knew that future students can be there for you?
Vadim Kovalev: Now we are working with a huge number of schools, these are very different schools, and it is very important and useful to me to constantly hold my hand on the pulse. In this sense, the best schools are interesting, good, but they are interesting to us like what you can always strive for. And the main part of the people with whom we work, who have the need for completion, development, and the motivation of schoolchildren to study. It is not concentrated in the best schools in the country. We have cases of feedback in our school when they write to us ... We have children from the southern regions of our country, where there is no Sberbank in the village, and they will go to participate and pay for services in their education in order to participate and pay for their education services, and they will be able to pay for their participation on Wednesday and, until lunch in the neighboring village. This perfectly illustrates our client, and partly Russia - it is like that, and school education is like that. This is a wide circle of schools, and you need to understand their interests, we need to understand their pain, their tasks, understand what part of their problems we can solve with the help of our education, our technologies, our work.
Tamara Lyalenkova: Tell us more about your project. Because there are already stories with the Olympiads - "Bear" ...
Vadim Kovalev: There is a "bear", there is a "kangaroo", there are excellent offline market participants, they grew for a very long time, 15-18 years, but this is the story of precisely offline events, and they solve the motivational problem. It is very important to show the student that the subject can be interesting and why. Often the level of the teacher is not enough to demonstrate this and answer such a question. On the other hand, the effect of the competition perfectly involves students in the process. At the same time, in addition to pure motivation, there is still an important task - to check the work of each student, show the student where he was mistaken, where he decided correctly, and that in connection with this mistake, he needs to be done, where he should go further.
Tamara Lyalenkova: It turns out that you are duplicating the teacher ... That is, the child wrote to the Olympics, and the parent understands: my child is not very good at studying, but then he received a high score, which means that he is not so bad. Do you suggest that the parent can evaluate the results and see where the child failed, adjust the training that he receives at the school by talking with the teacher or taking an additional tutor?
Vadim Kovalev: The question is wider. We have knowledge control - in the form of a test, in the form of an open solution, but training is still the interaction of people, and a sense of contact is very important. We show where exactly in the course of the decision the person was mistaken, and show him why, and what in connection with this he needs to do - the parents or the teacher after that understand what needs to be done in the course of education. On the other hand, we do not have the entrance threshold, we can start participating for free, and we do not have a minimum group. Just a parent who wants to know the level of his child can bring the child and participate. On non -standard, not school tasks, on the use of knowledge in life, it is perfectly illustrated why the child is doing homework. And then a diploma is issued. And this is what is worth their money, what people pay for, and on the other hand, this is part of training, education. These are Olympiads for everyone, and not for 10 thousand the most intelligent in the country.
Tamara Lyalenkova: Lena, but it does not seem to you that such a parallel history of electronic education, which is developing quite actively, cancel the teachers a little, and your efforts to revive the status of this profession are a little lost in this sense?
Elena Yarmanova: I really like the mission of the motivation of schoolchildren. We have a mission in some ways, we want our teachers to also accustom children, show them why education is needed, as is used in life, and why it will be useful. Our only difference is that you already have motivated parents, for example, they are ready to pay. In our case, we come to schools ourselves, to those children who either themselves or their parents do not yet understand the need for this. We come to them, and we do not need to wait until they discover this site for themselves.
Tamara Lyalenkova: Will you remain in education as a business project?
Elena Yarmanova: I would really like to stay and join this phase of business education as social entrepreneurship. This project will be able to pay off and begin to enter the payback only after some time, after we develop an examination of the preparation.
Tamara Lyalenkova: Who are you attracting? Who will teach these teachers?
Elena Yarmanova: Firstly, these will be people with an non-nedagogical education, most often the best graduates of the best universities in Russia. It seems to me that this will most likely be a set of partnerships of people who are trusted by both schools and an academic circle that works on the training of teachers.
Tamara Lyalenkova: It turns out the retraining institution ...
Alexander Sidorkin: In Titchefi America, for example, they are recruiting university graduates not pedagogical, they are offered to go to school for two years. Nobody taught them to be teachers, in the summer they pass some kind of accelerated program. Honestly, I was very skeptical about this, because I spent many years in the traditional training of teachers. But when we began to work with them and saw the model that they invented, it is really very interesting. There are not quite the same teachers, they are strong in another, but the success of this program itself in America, of course, is completely amazing. They have 48 thousand people there, and they only, in my opinion, have 5 thousand places there, and these are graduates of the country's best universities. And when Wendy Cap invented this idea, everyone thought that it was crazy, and that people from elite universities would never go to school, and they were all wrong. And I believe that in Russia there is also this need for ministry. If you do not litter all this with some kind of official slogans, then people will come - lawyers, economists, and so on. But there is attractive that they give up only two years of their life to this business, and then some of them remain, some leave, but even those who leave are a great good for education, because in the States there is such a layer of people who spent these two years at school, and this is very useful. They understand the problems of education, always support education, and this effect is much more than the educational action itself.
Tamara Lyalenkova: I wanted to talk with Valeria Androsenko, this is a camp for career guidance and self -determination. This is already a high school and a story closer to today. How did you come to this idea?
Valeria Androsenko: For the first time I did this camp at 17, when I myself faced the problem of career guidance. That is, I felt that it was very difficult for schoolchildren to make a choice, and in the first year of the institute I organized the City of the Future Camp. I had a Siberian Federal University, the direction - the economy. We offer schoolchildren in our camp, firstly, to find out the world of professions, and secondly, to try yourself in different roles, and thirdly, to make a conscious choice. How is this done? Children in the camp fall in a situation where they need to choose a university. They themselves choose a university, choose a faculty at which they want to study, and study five courses in the chosen specialty, and write the thesis. That is, there they receive theoretical knowledge. In parallel, they get a job in completely different firms. There are factories, media, companies, completely different companies with different positions. And this is a great simulation of the life of the state. We have foreign investors, we invite foreign teachers - from China, from India, from America, children will find out what needs for those countries are. That is, everyone is deeply immersed in their specialty. Every evening, reflection occurs in children, and they realize what was effective, what they grew up, what were the insides of the day. At the end of the camp, they have two large excursions - to real companies in the city of Krasnoyarsk. The tour is conducted by the personnel manager, he leads the children to different departments of the company, shows them reality, children look at all this and choose the profession they want to try. They are offered a workplace, set the task for them, and they work in their specialty for two or three hours. In addition, they make two more interesting conferences. On the tenth day of the camp, after the defense of the thesis, they make the conference themselves for peers for career guidance. Throughout the camp, they learn project management and gain coaching, how to speak, how to work with destructors and so on, and how to lead the project. They call the media themselves, invite them to their conference, find out how to make an advertisement, invite participants from neighboring camps, their friends, through the media-channels, to their conference, and they themselves act as workers. A 13 -year -old student, for example, tells how to be a broker, for an audience of 250 people.
Tamara Lyalenkova: This is a paid story, for which parents must pay for the child to understand what he wants to do? And how do you recruit these areas that you offer?
It is.
