Muscovites are invited to decide the fate of the Shukhov tower

Today, June 23, online voting begins, the results of which the Moscow authorities will take into account, making a decision on how to preserve the Shukhov Tower in disrepair.

Voting is held as part of the Active Citizen project of the Moscow Government. Due to the fact that the discussion of the future fate of the Shukhov tower is still ongoing, the government decided to bring the issue to the electronic referendum by ITAR-TASS .

Muscovites have to choose one of the four answer options:

• strengthen the tower designs and announce an open competition for the restoration project and the further use of the tower;
• disassemble, restore and install a tower in a new place;
• to disassemble, restore and re -install the tower in a historical place - Shabolovka street;
• Offer your option to save the Shukhov tower.

Given the voting results, the Moscow Cultural Heritage Department will decide on further actions to save the tower.

The survey will last until July 6. Any resident of Moscow can take part in a referendum. To do this, it is necessary to install the “Active Citizen” application on a smartphone based on iOS or Android , identify by a mobile phone number and fill out the profile.

The TV tower on Shabolovka was built in 1922 by architect Vladimir Shukhov. Over the 90 years of its existence, it has never been comprehensively restored, due to wear of steel structures there was a threat of the loss of the architectural monument.

In February of this year, the Ministry of Communications proposed to disassemble the tower, restore and install in another place - for example, at VDNH, Kaluga Square, as well as in other cities - Samara or Sevastopol. The Ministry of Culture , as well as architects, experts and public figures, opposed the transfer of the tower. Online patience "Stop the dismantling of the Shukhov tower on Shabolovka!"
