Yahoo has unveiled the first updated version of its Aviate Android launcher since acquiring the app in January 2014. A message about this appeared on the official Yahoo blog.
A new version of the application, already released under the Yahoo Aviate brand, appeared in the Google Play store on June 23. The application is available to all Android users who have set their phone to English as their primary language.
The main task of Yahoo Aviate is to ensure that the use of a smartphone is as convenient as possible, adapting the display of applications installed on it to the current needs of the owner.
The launcher can work in several main modes: “work”, “sleep”, “road”, “player” and “dinner”. So, when the user is in the office, Aviate displays work-related applications (email, for example); when the user is on the road - maps showing traffic and directions on how to get to a particular place; when he puts in headphones - music applications.
In addition, Yahoo Aviate can track sleep duration, report sudden changes in weather, display the main news for the day and help you choose the right restaurant or cafe for the evening.
Another important part of the application is a convenient section with the most frequently used contacts, which is displayed on the main screen of the smartphone by swiping up. The section consists of two parts - with “favorite” contacts and recently dialed numbers - and allows you to quickly call someone or send a message.
The Aviate app was acquired by Yahoo in January of this year. The deal was reported to be worth about $80 million. Such an impressive price for a small and relatively young startup (Aviate was launched about a year before the takeover) was explained by the fact that earlier negotiations on purchasing the application were also conducted by representatives of Dropbox.
