Defendants on the case

The Shirka-Film film studio represents the series “Defendants in the case”, revealing the history of Odessa conceptualism. The first three episodes are an interview with Leonid Voitskhov, Sergey Anufriev and Vladimir Fedorov.

Invented conceptualism in Odessa Vladimir Fedorov nicknamed Fedot with his classmate Alexei Kotsievsky in the late 1970s. In 1982, Fedot introduced Leonid Voitskhov with Sergey Anufriev, and then an art group arose, to which Igor Chatskin and Yuri Leiderman, “Peppers”, “Martynchiks”, Larisa Rezun and others, joined. The unspoken leader of the group was Leonid Wojciechs. Artists created a kind of mythopoetic conceptualism, which operated on absurd poetic forms and paradoxical images referring to the creativity of the Oberiuts and Odessa folklore. By the end of the 1980s, the main team moved to Moscow, in the squat in Furmann Lane, and later in the ward “PE” (pure ponds), where the artists worked separately. Odessa residents saved Moscow conceptualism from fraining with social art, bringing humor, picturesque, psychedelia. Together with Pavel Pepperstein in 1987, Anufriev and Leiderman created the “Medical Hermenutics” inspection group, and in 1991 Vladimir Fedorov became a senior inspector instead of Leiderman. Since the mid-1990s, many participants in the Odessa group have gone underground-even relative to the underground. The Shirka-Film film studio is investigating in the case of the Odessa archive and introduces the viewer to some of the participants in the conceptualist group.

The first series of “defendants in the case” is “Leonid Wojciechs”. The artist talks about his projects of the 1970s, about the formation of a group of conceptualists, about the exhibition "Related", about life in the squat in Furman Lane, in the ward "PE", about the underwater synagogue, the Jewish Museum of the CIS, the new Hasidism, the cult of Makhno, the Niagara fountain and his other projects.

The second series is “Sergey Anufriev”. He talks about contemporary art in Odessa, about the artists of the 1960-1970s: Alexander Anufrieva, Evgenia Rachmanin, Viktor Marineuk, Lyudmila Yastreb, Valentina Khrushche, about the conceptualist group of the 1980s.

The third series is “Vladimir Fedorov”. The artist talks about his life in Odessa, about the first projects with Alexei Kotsievsky, with Sergey Anufriev, about the participants in the conceptualist group of the 1980s, about the persecution of the KGB, about moving to Kharkov and then to Moscow, about life in Furmann Lane and work as part of the Inspectorate of Medical Hermeneutics.
