At least 160 hostages were killed in the Iraqi city of Tikrite by militants

In Iraq, militants of the radical group “Islamic State in Iraq and Levant” killed at least 160 hostages captured by them this month in the city of Tikrit in the north of the country.

Such data are given today by Human Rights Watch. Human rights activists note that extremists broke into Tikrite on June 11, and in the next three days, from 160 to 190 men became victims of the reprisals they committed in the city.

Human rights activists do not exclude that the number of dead is possibly “much higher”, but it is not yet possible to check this. The Sunni militants themselves claim that they killed 1700 Iraqi shine military personnel in Tikrit.

The Sunni radical group associated with Al-Qaeda controls significant territories in the west and north of Iraq and has recently made active attempts to seize new areas.
