Putin strengthened the fight against extremism

Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law that strengthens responsibility for extremist activities. In particular, an article “Financing of extremist activity” appeared in the Criminal Code.

The new version of the law contains additions to Art. 280 (public calls for extremist activity), Art. 282 (excitement of hatred or enmity, as well as humiliation of human dignity), Art. 282.1 (organization of the extremist community) and Article 282.2 (organization of the activities of an extremist organization) of the Criminal Code of Russia.

The law provides for a fine of 200-500 thousand rubles, forced labor for up to five years or imprisonment for up to six years for organizing an extremist community. The lower limit of the fine for public calls for extremist activity increased from 100 thousand to 300 thousand rubles, and the term of imprisonment is up to four years.

For committing crimes under Art. 282 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, the term of forced labor was increased from two to four years, and the lower limit of the fine is from 100 thousand to 300 thousand rubles.

In addition, Article 282.3 is introduced in the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (financing of Estrem activities), which introduces the punishment for “providing or raising funds or the provision of financial services, obviously intended to finance the organization, preparation and commit at least one of the crimes of an extremist orientation or to ensure the activities of an extremist community or extremist organization”.

Private persons under Art. 282.3 are punished with a fine of 300-500 thousand rubles, or correctional work for a period of one to two years, or by deprivation of liberty for up to three years.

Punishments for actions provided for in Art. 282.3, using the official position include a fine of up to 700 thousand rubles and imprisonment for up to six years.
