"Last address" announced a fundraiser

On the Internet, fundraising began on the memorial project “The Last Address” - a public initiative to perpetuate the memory of victims of political repression and state arbitrariness in the USSR.

The initiators of the project want to install thousands of personal memorial signs of a single sample on the facades of houses, which were the last lifetime address of victims of political repression. The principle of the project is “one name, one life, one sign”. Each of the memorial signs in the size of no more than a palm will be dedicated to only one person. The initiator of its installation will also be one specific applicant. Together, these signs form a huge folk memorial, which will stretch throughout Russia.

The project is based on a unique data archive created by the Memorial society based on regional memory books. Anyone can search, starting from the address or name of interest, and send the organizers of the “last address” an application with the proposal to establish another sign - at a specific address, with a specific name.

Financing does not involve any state bodies, subsidies from federal or local budgets. The project will develop exclusively thanks to the voluntary donation of citizens.

The cost of each specific memorial sign (it will amount to no more than 4,500 rubles) will be paid by the initiator of its installation, but to pay for organizational expenses, the “infrastructure” of the project, a lot of funds will have to be raised, so the project organizers turned to the Planeta.ru community.

Organizational expenses of the project "Last address" are, first of all, the creation, programming and support of the Internet site, where all the information related to the project will be concentrated. It is here that those who wish will be able to find their address and name that interests them and leave a request for a new sign. All the information about the development of the project will also be published there, constant feedback with the participants will be supported; An interactive map will be located here, on which each sign will be marked - already established or at the application stage.

Payments will require the work of archival workers and lawyers who will verify and clarify the information necessary for the installation of each sign: name, events, installation addresses.

Another important expense item is work in agreement to install signs with the owners of houses who have become “the last addresses” of the repressed. In each individual case, it will be necessary to ensure that the owner of this particular facade agrees to mount the sign. Such an owner may turn out to be the HOA, and the state institution, and the commercial company, and the private person ...

Finally, at the expense of this money, technical work will also be financed - the installation of memorial signs on the facades of houses.

The amount declared as the goal of gathering popular assistance on the “planet” - 800,000 rubles will allow you to launch the “last address” website and conduct the necessary preparation for the installation of the first few hundred plates during the first six months of the development of the project.
