Snowden asked to extend the term of temporary asylum in Russia

Former US intelligence officer Edward Snowden wrote a petition for extending to him for a year to provide temporary asylum in Russia. This was reported to Izvestia by a source in the Federal Migration Service. Snowden submitted the corresponding statement to the Moscow Region Office of the FMS.

“Snowden had to apply to us with a statement on the extension of a temporary asylum no later than June 30,” the interlocutor of the publication said. “After all, the validity of documents on his temporary asylum issued last year expires on July 31. And if he wants to stay in Russia, he must report this a month before the end of these documents.”

Snowden's temporary shelter was provided for a year. According to the current legislation, it can extend an unlimited number of times, if the circumstances for which the shelter has not changed.

"Thus, a temporary shelter for Snowden after consideration of his petition can be extended for another year," the FMS noted.

In 2013, Snowden became famous throughout the world as an exposure to American special services. Then he handed over a number of secret documents on the activities of the CIA and the NSA, in which, in particular, it was reported that they monitored telephone conversations and electronic correspondence of both US citizens and residents of other countries, including top -level politicians. In his homeland, ex-employee of special services threatens up to 30 years in prison for disclosing state secrets.

In August 2013, Snowden received a temporary asylum in Russia for a year for a year. At the end of April, the media reported that he turned to the famous lawyer Plato Plato with a request to help conclude a deal with American justice, which would allow Snowden to return home.

In early June, it became known that Snowden officially turned to the Brazilian authorities with a request to provide him with a temporary shelter. Snowden noted that he also sent such requests to a number of other countries.
