You could say he was shocked. And yes, he intends to go to court. Apparently, he is not alone. Thierry Herzog, Gilbert Aziber and Deputy Prosecutor of the Court of Cassation Patrick Sassu were detained on Monday 30 June.

In the meantime, Sarkozy is serving a historic one-day sentence in Nanterre and is waiting for charges to be brought that could drag on for many years (for example, up to 10 years in prison are provided for “trafficking in influence”).

It is clear that charges will be brought.

It is also clear that despite everything, Sarkozy retains a powerful handful of supporters - both in the UMP party and among voters. And even with four (alleged) charges around his neck, he doesn't (yet) drown. And the popularity of the "little Napoleon" is still higher than that of the "normal president" Hollande.
