Minister of Defense Sergei Shoigu reported to President Vladimir Putin about the results of a sudden verification of the combat readiness of the Central Military District with the participation of more than 65 thousand military personnel and a large number of special equipment. This audit confirmed that the troops in such an amount are able to turn over 72 hours at a distance of more than three thousand kilometers, the head of the Ministry of Defense said.
“Given the fact that this is actually the eighth sudden check, of course, each time the results are better and better,” ITAR -TASS quotes it. "If we talk about the airborne troops, then, perhaps for the first time in many years, the air over long distances - almost 3.5 thousand kilometers - was completely transferred to the equipment division, plus to this landing and stroke brigade. All of them unfolded at three training grounds. The comments that we had in the last year in the airborne troops were substantially corrected" Minister of the Supreme Commander -in -Chief.
Also, during the audit, the division management system was tested, Shoigu continued. "The headquarters and control points with all the necessary attributes, the linking of the operation of aviation, unmanned aerial vehicles and all ground forces were deployed. In addition, we worked out the transfer of large formations over long distances," he said.
In general, during the audit, more than 65 thousand personnel, 177 aircraft, 56 helicopters, 5.5 thousand units of automobile and armored vehicles were involved, Shoigu said. At the same time, he indicated that "in this case, the army and the divisions were unfolding not fragmentary, but completely," that is, "the entire rear component was provided, the entire refueling system, both ammunition and fuel and lubricants."
“That is, in full, they completed everything. This check once again confirmed that the troops are able to turn out in such an amount and in such a volume in 72 hours at a distance of more than 3,000 kilometers,” Shoigu summed up.
In his report, he did not say a word about Ukraine, although many had previously seen the connection between this sudden verification of the troops and the events in a neighboring country. A comprehensive sudden check of combat readiness of the CVO troops was started on June 21 - the day after the President’s meeting with members of the Security Council of the Russian Federation dedicated to the situation in Ukraine.
However, judging by the words of Shoigu, the current exercises had a completely different direction. “Naturally, we laid the basis the possible response on the border with Afghanistan, related to the withdrawal of coalition forces from Afghanistan and the threats that we are already starting to observe on the border among our colleagues and partners in the CSTO,“ therefore all the elements are worked out, the troops returned to the places of constant deployment, the task posed by you is fulfilled. ”
Putin ordered Shoiga to give gratitude to all the participants in the maneuvers and emphasized that this kind of work "we will certainly continue." In other words, probably in the foreseeable future we can expect new sudden large -scale exercises.
It is worth noting that on the eve of the report of the head of the Ministry of Defense, Putin again gathered a meeting with permanent members of the Council of People's Commissars of the Russian Federation, during which, according to the Kremlin website , "a detailed discussion of the situation in Ukraine took place, which rapidly deteriorates after President Poroshenko gave an order to withdraw from the ceasefire regime." The president’s press service is silent about the results of this meeting.
