
President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko will bring to parliament the candidacy of Colonel General Valery Geletey for approval to the post of Minister of Defense. He announced this on Wednesday evening at a meeting with the leaders of the Verkhovna Rada factions, according to the website of the head of state. The head of the General Staff will be Lieutenant General Viktor Muzhenko. To oversee the power bloc in the presidential administration will be Yuri Kosyuk - a famous entrepreneur, billionaire, owner of the Nash Ryaba agro -industrial holding.
"Today, the determination and professionalism of the military actions that were demonstrated during the fighting in the ATO zone are extremely important," Poroshenko noted. He called the key tasks the increase in the combat effectiveness of the army and the provision of its material and technical resources.
According to the president, the power unit in the conditions of the military operation "requires strengthening and serious, comprehensive and systemic reform." "Today we need the decisiveness and professionalism of the military for effective actions in the anti -terrorist operation zone," Poroshenko said. He intends to deal with corruption in the army. "I will insist on cleaning the army from thieves and bribe takers. All corrupt officials in uniform should answer before the law for their actions against the people of Ukraine," Poroshenko said.
Since the end of March, the responsibility of the Minister of Defense of Ukraine has been performed by Mikhail Koval. Before him, this post was held by Igor Tenyukh within a month.
Valery Geletey is 46 years old, he served in the bodies of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for a long time, including the Kiev Office for the Combat of Organized Crime. From 2007 to 2009, Geletey headed the Office of the State Protection of Ukraine. In early March of this year, after the victory of the Maidan, he was again appointed to this position.
