
Vnesheconombank asks the government to compensate for the costs of building Olympic facilities in Sochi. This was reported by Kommersant with reference to the editorial office of the head of the state corporation Vladimir Dmitriev to Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev of June 25. In a letter, Dmitriev achieves that Medvedev instruct the Ministry of Finance to lay this compensation in the draft budget for 2015-2017.
Dmitriev explains his wish that a number of Olympic projects are “estimated”, therefore, according to the loans issued for their implementation, “non-fulfillment of payment obligations of borrowers in December 2015 (or next months) without special state support measures is expected.”
The head of VEB gives a list of nine potential defaulters. This, in particular, is the "Rosa Khutor" by Vladimir Potanin, "Top Prodgect" Viktor Vekselberg, Rogsibal Oleg Deripaska, as well as Sberbank Krasnaya Polyana. How much the structures listed in the letter owe the VEB, Dmitriev does not specify. Meanwhile, it is known that the bank estimated losses from lending to Olympic projects at 175 billion rubles. As the source close to VEB explained to the publication, this is the amount of interest.
In April, the supervisory board of Vnesheconombank agreed to give the Olympic developers a delay on loans by the end of 2015. "There was a task - to prevent bankruptcy of Olympic investors, which should contribute to credit holidays," the need for such a measure explained.
