Against the human rights activist, the case is fabricated under part 2 of Article 228 of the Criminal Code (illegal storage of drugs on a large scale without the purpose of marketing). He faces up to 10 years in a colony.
The process is conducted by judge Alexander Dubkov. The prosecution is supported by the prosecutor of the Urus-Martan district Arbi Bakhanoev and his deputy Ramzan Dzhabrailov. Lawyers Petr Zaikin and Ilyas Temishev defend Kutaeva.
On February 18, Kutaev played at a scientific conference dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the deportation of Chechens, Ingush and Balkars. Two days later, they called him from the presidential administration of Chechnya and demanded that they come to the conversation.

On February 28, the combined mobile group of human rights activists according to the results of the audit said that from February 20 to 22, torture was applied to Kutaev . "Officials who are in official quality repeatedly subjected Ruslan Kutaev to the illegal physical impact, which caused him strong physical and moral suffering in order to force him to give a confession in the criminal case," the human rights activists said.
On April 25, the Urus-Martan City Court of Chechnya began to consider Kutaev’s case on the merits . Politzek refused to admit guilt.
The police officers who were questioned later in court confused Kutaev’s detention circumstances . They could not explain to the court exactly how agreed and from whom specifically the order was received to detain the human rights activist.
On June 2, the neurologist, who conducted the examination of Kutaev, said that she did not know who entered the information about the presence of the defendant Codein and Morphine in the urine of the defendant. According to her, she did not do the sampling for analysis and she was also not performed by her laboratory research.
Bobotyev, involved in the case as a witness, said that Kutaev was detained at his house, and not on the street, as the police claim. No bag from Kutaev’s pocket was removed and the protocol was not compiled. The detention of Kutaev in the house of relatives, and not on the street, is confirmed by other circumstances.
On June 19, the Memorial human rights center recognized Kutaev as a political prisoner .
