Today, July 7, the Lefortovo District Court of Moscow extended until October 11 the term of detention of Ukrainian director Oleg Sentsov detained in Crimea.
Having extended the term of arrest, Judge Elena Galikhanova thus satisfied the application of the investigation, who asked to leave Sentsov in a pre -trial detention center for another three months, Rapsy reports.
In the substantiation of the petition, the investigator indicated the need to conduct a number of examinations, the search for other participants in the community organized by Sentsov, as well as the fact that he refused to pass biological samples, which made it difficult to investigate.
In turn, the defense of Sentsov insisted on the illegality of the chosen preventive measure in the Crimea, noting that the documents necessary for the legality of the relevant process in the current court were not submitted.
Sentsov himself insisted on his innocence and claimed that he was not a member of the Right Sector, and all evidence against him is the testimony of other detainees, who, according to him, promised the mitigation of the punishment. The director considered the accusation of undermining the “Eternal Flame” monument insulting, since he, in his own words, reads this monument to the inviolable.
On May 11, Oleg Sentsov was detained in Simferopol and transported to Moscow. On May 30, it was announced that the Investigative Department of the FSB of Russia was investigating a criminal case on the preparation of terrorist attacks in the Crimea as part of a terrorist community.
European filmmakers and the Russian cinema union spoke with the demand to free the director, and funds are being raised in support of Oleg Sentsov. At the end of June, President of the Moscow International Film Festival Nikita Mikhalkov supported the appeal of the head of the National Union of Cinematographers of Ukraine Sergey Tribach to President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin with a request to promote the liberation of Oleg Sentsov.
