Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev approved Vladimir Yakunin as president of the “Russian railways”. The corresponding order was published on the government website on July 7.
The document also appointed the new board of directors of the company. Oleg Belozerov, Deputy Minister of Finance, Andrei Ivanov, director of the Agency for Strategic Initiatives, Dmitry Peskov and the former Prime Minister and the head of the Accounts Chamber, Sergey Stepashin (now heads the observational council of the Housing and Public Utility Fund for Reforming the Housing and Public Utilities).
From the board of directors, the executive director of the Russian division of Deutsche Bank Igor Lozhevsky, director of the “Agency of Strategic Initiatives”, Artem Avetisyan, managing director of the “Moscow Exchange” Vladimir Gusakov and the President of the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs Alexander Shokhin, was excluded.
Yakunin has been heading Russian Railways since 2005, he was approved four times as president of the company. The term of his last contract expired on June 16, 2014, it was reported that Yakunin's reassignment was delayed for technical reasons.
