Now 63rd Drive will have a second name - Sergey Dovlatov Way , the Russian News Service reports.
The decision on this was made by the city councils based on the results of the consideration of an online patronage , which collected more than 18 thousand signatures. According to the rules, it was required to collect 20 thousand, but the New York authorities took into account the wide public support of the initiative.
In 1978, Sergey Dovlatov emigrated from the USSR to the USA and settled in New York. The writer lived there until his death in 1990 and was buried in a cemetery in Queens.
Last fall, permission was obtained to install a memorial plaque in honor of Dovlatov and the collection of signatures for the street of his name began.
