1894. Isaac Babel was born

120 years ago, on July 12, 1894, the writer Isaac Emmanuilovich Babel was born, famous for the collections of the short stories of Konarmia and Odessa Stories and the victim of the Stalinist repressions.

To his future wife Antonin Pirozhkova, he conveyed his impressions of continuous collectivization: “... I have seen a lot of humiliations, stamping and destruction of a person as such, but all this was physical humiliation, trampling and illegation. Here, near Kiev, a solid, wise and strong person, they turn into a homeless, a husky and foul dog, which everyone shy away, like a plague. Not even a dog, but something not mammaling ... "
