New data on translations of the Bible text into languages of the world are published
In the German city of Wuppertal, on Thursday, the General Assembly of the German Biblical Society opened. On the occasion of this event, new data on the translation of scripture into different languages of the world were published.
Now the full Bible with the Old and New Testaments is available today in 511 languages, the World Association of Biblical Societies (UBS) and German society says. The Bible was translated into seven new languages: three in Africa, two in Asia, one in America and one in Europe.
The New Testament is translated into 1295 languages, individual Bible books are available in 844 languages. Nevertheless, hundreds of millions of people, the Bible text in their native language is not yet available, is said in the report. Currently in the world there are 6900 "living" languages. Many people also expect new translations or revision of existing Bible translations, because some translations were made more than a hundred years ago, and old texts are difficult to understand modern readers.
Currently, about 460 Bible translation projects are in force. By 2015, 100 transfers will be completed, 43 of them will be the first translations, 27 - new translations and 30 - with changes in translated texts.
The World Association of Biblical Societies unites 146 members and operates in more than 200 countries, the Sedmitsa.Ru portal reports.
