
The chairman of the "Supreme Council" of the self -proclaimed "Donetsk People's Republic" Denis Pushilin was dismissed of his own free will. This was reported by Interfax with reference to his deputy Vladimir Makovich.
"Denis is now in Moscow. He sent a letter to my name with a request to withdraw from his position of his own free will. At the Council session, this issue was put to the vote. The deputies supported the resignation of Pushilin," Vice Speaker said. He did not specify for what reasons Pushilin decided to resign.
According to Makovich, now he fulfills the duties of the “speaker of the parliament”. The next meeting of the “Supreme Council” will be filed candidates for applicants for this position. According to the "Constitution" of the DPR, "speaker" is considered the head of state.
In Donetsk, two attempts were made on Pushilin. On June 7 , his assistant, deputy of the Supreme Council of the DPR Maxim Petrukhin, was shot from the machine guns by unknown in the center of Donetsk . On June 12, the minibus, on which Pushilin usually travels, exploded at the administration building in the center of Donetsk . Three people were killed, four were injured by Pushilin accused of "political opponents" of his deed. “Of course, all suspicions of Kyiv,” he said.
On May 26, after the battle at the Donetsk airport, reports appeared about the flight of Pushilin . The head of the "Lugansk People's Republic" Valery Bolotov called Pushilin a traitor and announced his intention to eliminate him. However, later Pushilin denied reports of his flight and stated that "he would be with the people to the end."
Pushilin is included in the EU sanctions list.
