During the construction of the bridge across the Kerch Strait, the work of prisoners will be used. This was stated by Deputy Head of the FSIN Oleg Korshunov in an interview with Kommersant.
“It will be necessary to do reinforced concrete, engage in metalworking. We are able to help and expect that there will be large orders, so we intend to connect the colony of the whole south of Russia to their implementation,” Korshunov noted.
In addition, prisoners will participate in the improvement of the surroundings of Sochi after the Winter Olympiad. According to Korshunov, at present, 200 convicts are already involved in the works serving sentences in colonies-settlements. He emphasized that it is not planned to use prisoners of correctional institutions of general and strict regimes.
Korshunov admitted that prisoners earn less than the minimum wage established in Russia. According to him, the average salary is 196 rubles per day, although in separate colonies earnings can reach 215 thousand rubles.
One of his important tasks, the management of the FSIN sees the fight against corruption when concluding direct contracts of representatives of the colony with businessmen, Korshunov noted. According to him, this was one of the goals of creating a FSIN trading house, which will oversee the production activities of Russian colonies. As a result, direct contact between the chiefs of the colonies and businessmen will be excluded.
Earlier it was reported that the Chinese state company China Railway Construction Corporation can be involved in the construction of a transport transition through the Kerch Strait. The project cost is preliminarily estimated at 1.2 to 3 billion dollars.
Currently, a ferry crossing is acting through the Kerch Strait. It carries out passengers, cars and freight railway trains. Its power is completely not enough to supply Crimea.
