
The European Union introduced sectoral sanctions against Russia, reports European Pravda. The corresponding decision was made in Brussels at a meeting of the ambassadors of EU members. According to Gazeta.ru, on Wednesday the Council of the EU will accept the relevant legal act, on Thursday this act will be published in the official journal of the European Union, and on Friday it will enter into force.
The sanctions imposed on the energy and financial industries, as well as the production of military and dual -use products. For financial sanctions, Russian banks fall, the share of the state is higher than 50 percent. They are forbidden to work in the credit market and use financial instruments that provide a term of more than 90 days. Also, these banks are prohibited from issuing Eurobonds and a issue of shares in favor of European owners. The complete ban on transactions in the euro for these banks, however, is not provided.
Similar restrictions were introduced for Russian government agencies, as well as for corporations and agencies in which the share of the state exceeds 50 percent.
In the energy industry, oil producing enterprises fall under sanctions. The EU prohibits export and re -export to Russia of high -tech equipment for oil production, primarily for deep -sea drilling.
Restrictions on the supply of military products by the already concluded contracts are not affected. This was insisted by France, which intends to sell to Russia two Mistral helicopter carriers.
The sanctions have been imposed for a year, but after 3 months it can be revised. Meanwhile, diplomats of the EU countries assured the "European truth" that tightening sanctions can occur earlier than 3 months after an urgent need to arise.
At the same time, the chairman of the European Commission Herman Van Rompey told AFP that if Russia "changes its course, then the EU will be ready to cancel its decisions."
The day before, US President Barack Obama discussed new sanctions against Russia at a television conference with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, French President Francois Olland and British Prime Ministers David Cameron and Italy Matteo Renzi. As expected, the United States this week will also introduce the next anti -Russian sanctions. Blinken, Deputy Advisor to National Security, Anthoni, assured that "in full coordination with Europe, the United States will take its additional measures."
