Israel and Hamas agreed on a 72-hour truce in the Gaza sector. The ceasefire entered into force on Friday, at 08:00 local time, Lenta.ru reports with reference to the statement of US Secretary of State John Kerry.
The agreement on the ceasefire, as Kerry said, was achieved through the mediation of the United States and the UN. "During this period, the residents of Gaza will receive extremely necessary humanitarian assistance, and will also be able to bury the dead, take care of the wounded and replenish food supplies," the Secretary of State said. During the truce, he said, the supply of water and electricity in the Palestinian enclave will also be restored.
“We urge all parties to show restraint and fully observe our obligations during the ceasefire,” Kerry added.
Israel conducts the operation "Inexhaustible rock" in the Gaza sector. More than 1440 Palestinians were its victims. From Israel, 56 military and three civilians died. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that the military campaign in the Gaza sector will continue until the Hamas group is completely eradicated.
